(12/1/2011) - A group of local artists and entrepreneurs have banded together to showcase their community - the town of Cambridge and its village center, Jeffersonville.

Saturday, November 26 is “Shop Small, Buy Local” day. This generally means avoiding a road trip to the big city or a short trip to the keyboard to punch in “Amazon.” The Internet is turning itself inside out, however. The tentacles that had reached into our homes from distant states and countries to sell us the goodies we want are now weaving a multi-layered canvas whose threads connect businesses with customers in their immediate community. We are redefining how local merchants do business.

(10/10/11) - When Vermont Small Business Development Center’s (VtSBDC) Broadband Business Advisor Patrick Ripley began his e-Vermont community visits, Troy and Jessica Steel of Waiora Valley Farm and Gallup Brook Fencing in Cambridge were among the first business owners he encountered.

calendare-Vermont initiatives in Cambridge were spearheaded by a diverse cross-section of the community’s artists and businesses – Cambridge Artists and Entrepreneurs (CAE) – as well as representatives from the school, library and local government. In one short year, this team succeeded in bringing the following accomplishments to Cambridge:

Despite its name, the pilot program will not be bringing broadband to those areas of Cambridge which do not have high speed internet access. Rather, the goal is to create sufficient interest in broadband to convince one of the area's providers to expand service.

As a culmination of a process which started more than a year ago, last week, the town of Cambridge was notified they will be one of 12 communities around the state accepted into a program designed to improve their online presence and capabilities.

Members of the Cambridge community worked with the Cambridge Planning Commission and helped to apply for the eVermont program. Together they wrote a proposal and solicited letters of support from various community organizations and businesses.
