Through e-Vermont, students at Dover elementary are getting more than just a taste of technology – they’re becoming tech experts. Just ask Stefanie Nick, mother of Isabella Nick, a 5th grader taking part in Digital Wish’s 1:1 Computing School Modernization Initiative at Dover Elementary School.

Dover kids with netbooks(12-2-2011) - e-Vermont and partner Digital Wish are helping to expand the world of learning for every 4th, 5th, and 6th grader in this rural southern Vermont town. Each week a trainer from Digital Wish joins their teachers for lessons that integrate technology into the curriculum.

DOVER -- After being selected to participate in a statewide effort to increase the use of technology and online capabilities, students at Dover Elementary will be issued new computers. As part of the e-Vermont Grant, awarded to Dover by the Vermont Council on Rural Development, fourth, fifth and sixth-grade students will be presented with new Netbooks, provided by Digital Wish, the educational component of e-Vermont, and Dell.

A key part of e-Vermont's approach is getting input from residents in the e-communities so we can customize our trainings and resources to meet their local needs. Our second round towns are hosting public forums now to introduce e-Vermont partners and hear how we can help. The Deerfield Valley News wrote an excellent article in advance of Dover's forum.

Between summer 2011 and spring 2012, e-Vermont and the Dover e-Vermont Steering Committee will deliver an array of resources to improve Dover’s use of the Internet to achieve key community goals and welcome more citizens into the digital culture. Already, e-Vermont is working with Dover Elementary to bring 21st century educational opportunities to its students.

DOVER—Dover continues its propulsion into the digital age with its participation in the e-Vermont Community Broadband Project. According to VCRD e-Vermont Community Director Philip Petty, e-Vermont is a two-year federally funded initiative to help residents of particular communities use broadband “in new, different, and exciting ways.”...

The E-Vermont Community Broadband Project was the only applicant East of the Mississippi to be awarded federal stimulus money for rural broadband. This week the project announced both advances of 2010 and the names of 12 rural communities chosen for next year. E-Vermont doesn’t lay fiber cable; instead, it offers small communities expert help in making the most of existing Internet technology. The 2010 projects included, for 5th graders in Bristol, VT, new computers, training in making podcasts, and better integration of technology into the school curriculum.
