When the 2011 Jobs Bill was passed by the Legislature last year, over $500,000 was earmarked for Agricultural investments. The Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets estimates 100 jobs will be created as a result of the investments, and an additional $1.3 million dollars of matching funds and personal investments will be leveraged.

A similar strategic plan was adopted in 2001 and stimulated many successful projects during the last ten years. Vermont's efforts to attract and retain businesses reliant on instantaneous communication weren't helped by a recent report indicating that average Internet download speeds in the state are among the pokiest in the country.

The latest edition of the annual “Speed Matters” report puts Vermont in 45th place nationally and dead last in New England. In comparative terms, the state now fares worse than a year earlier, when it was ranked 36th out of 50.
