Although the prioritization work of the Community Visit Program requires a town to decide what is most important as it moves forward with Task Forces, nothing is lost in the process from the long list of concerns and ideas expressed in early community focus sessions. Many interesting and diverse thoughts are represented in the notes, and are presented as a reminder of issues explored, and a possible foundation for future projects.

Lamoille County is home to 375 farms — according to the DC-based Environmental Working Group — and not one food co-op. MONTPELIER — “I dip therefore I yam” is a motto that belongs to Lisa Johnson of Norwich, who testified recently about a niche product, Yummy Yams, she is producing from a crop seldom seen on the Vermont landscape. “I want to change the way people think about sweet potatoes,” she recently told the House Committee on Agriculture. Committee members heard a morning’s worth of testimony from land base entrepreneurs that included the head of a wood pellet plant near Rutland.
